James Toney is set to make his debut in the UFC at UFC 118, and the promotion has wasted no time in putting him against a tough opponent in MMA legend Randy Couture.

While the fight has yet to be confirmed, Fighters Only and MMA Junkie have both reported the fight happening for the UFC’s debut in Boston.

Toney is looking to make an impact in MMA, and went on a relentless trash-talk spree calling out every major fighter in the UFC and heavily pushing Dana White to sign him. Toney signed a multi-fight promotion with deal, originally reported by this site. Toney has enlisted well known MMA trainer Juanito Ibarra for his debut in the sport, who has worked with former UFC light-heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

Dana White appeared on Rome is Burning today and has officially confirmed Anderson Silva’s next opponent. Chael Sonnen will be next in line to face the middleweight division kingpin, no date has been confirmed yet.

White was very open and honest with his feelings about Silva, and what implications there will be if Silva has another lackluster performance:

If he ever acts like that again in the ring I will cut him. I don’t care if he’s the pound for pound best fighter in the world.

I don’t care if (Anderson Silva) is the middleweight champion. I will cut him, absolutely.

Sonnen defeated Nate Marquardt at UFC 109 to earn his title shot , after dominating former number one contender Yushin Okami at UFC 104.

Sonnen has gone on record with his thoughts about Silva, describing him as a “dirt bag” and that its his “moral obligation” to defeat Anderson. Sonnen has talked up a fight with Anderson since his arrival in the promotion, and now he gets his wish.

Since Anderson took no real damage against Damian Maia, expect the fight to be booked soon, and not to be the main event.

More on this in the coming days.

A few weeks prior to his fight with Shane Carwin at UFC 111, Frank Mir compared Brock Lesnar to Moby Dick due to Lesnar being big, white, and according to Frank, a dick. Unfortunately for Mir, he may not have come to the end of the famed novel where Captain Ahab is dragged down to depths of the ocean by the whale, and in the process, loses everything.

Many in the MMA world were wondering if Mir had completely overlooked his upcoming opponent Shane Carwin leading up to the brutal knockout defeat suffered by the former UFC champion. While Mir came out and stated the he was not obsessed with Lesnar, his change in physique and demeanor pointed to an obsession. Since the loss at UFC 100 Mir has consistently spoke about Lesnar and continued with what could be perceived as an obsession going into the Cheick Kongo fight; taking most of the time on the Countdown show talking about Lesnar, and wanting to rip Kongo’s arm off as a statement to Lesnar.

Last Saturday, Mir broke a cardinal sin: Never overlook an opponent.

After months of mentally hyping himself for a potential rubber match with Lesnar, Mir was on the octagon canvas with medical officials, refs, and his own corner looming over him. It was a familiar image to those who saw the carnage that Lesnar unleashed on Mir’s face at UFC 100; a bigger and far stronger opponent had put Mir against the cage and did what Ian Freeman did to him in 2002. Shane Carwin had cemented himself as Lesnar’s newest threat, while Frank Mir saw his dreams go up in smoke.

That is where the obsession of Mir begins. He never lost his heavyweight championship; the belt was stripped after his motorcycle accident. For nearly two years, Mir sat on the sidelines as Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski played a never-ending “Hot Potato” with his title belt.

What appearred to be nothing more than a friendly ribbing from UFC President Dana White in the direction of Jon Fitch in regards to potentially facing off with long-time teammate Josh Koscheck following the welterweight contender’s UFC 111 slow-grind victory over Ben Saunders quickly escalated into “real talk” as the godfather of the most successful fight promotion on the planet sunk his feet firmly into the sand and took a position to take the power back, so to speak.

The evidence speaks for itself. Check out the video below made available through ESPN Radio 1100, which is followed by a full transcript:

While many may have been anticipating news of Keith Jardine’s release from the UFC following a brutal knockout suffered at the hands of Ryan Bader during UFC 110, it looks like there’s still a pulse to Jardine’s career with the promotion after all.

A bout is currently being targeted for The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale between Jardine and Matt Hamill according to a recent report from MMAJunkie.com.

Jardine may be staying afloat in the UFC, but there’s no questioning the fact that he’s treading water at this point with a trio of consecutive defeats on his resume. A loss at the hands of Hamill at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale would make a case for “The Dean of Mean” staying in the UFC an extremely difficult one to make.

With the amount of success that current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has obtained outside of his “comfort zone” and natural fighting weight in the light heavyweight division, an eventual climb to the heavyweight ranks would appear to be the next step in the evolution of the career of one of the greatest mixed martial artists to step foot inside of the octagon.

As Silva prepares for the latest challenge to his UFC 185 pound crown – a UFC 112 showdown with submission ace, Demian Maia – the dominant title holder spoke on the possibility of a move up to the heavyweight division during a recent UFC conference call held to promote the UFC 112 bout in Abu Dhabi.

A highly anticipated light heavyweight bout between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans has been announced and will take place on May 29 at UFC 114.

Originally billed to take place at UFC 107, the fight was delayed due to Rampage’s controversial decision to accept the role of B.A. Baracus in the upcoming movie “The A-Team”.

This fight has been expected since the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter when Evans and Team Rashad comfortably beat ‘Rampage’ along with Team Rampage, with Roy Nelson walking out at ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ in the end. During the show there was a series of heated arguments and a lot of trash talk between the pair.

UFC president Dana White talked about animosity between the two via UFC.com, stating,”It’s no secret that Rampage Jackson and Rashad Evans don’t like each other, and this rivalry has gotten more and more intense in the last few months, I can guarantee you that neither one of these guys wants to lose to each other, this fight is going to be insane.”

If UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn had the chance to go back and do it all over again, he wouldn’t change a thing.

Not the slightest bit disheartened by the pummeling suffered at the hands of UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre during UFC 94 in January of 2009, Penn reckons he had it coming to some extent.

“I think that everything happens for a reason in life. And I got my butt kicked,’” said Penn in a recent conversation with IGN. “Maybe I was saying some things I shouldn’t have been saying, so I got my butt kicked. With that said, everything happens for a reason. That’s why GSP has cheating tagged onto him. Everything is how it should be, life is perfect, life is always how it should be. Maybe I said some things that I shouldn’t have said, I got my butt kicked for that. And he has cheating attached to his name. That’s just exactly how life should be, exactly what happened I guess.”

A storm of speculation has surrounded the reasoning behind Tito Ortiz‘ recent removal from his expected bout with Chuck Liddell along with a recent coaching gig on the eleventh season of The Ultimate Fighter, and it now appears as though we may have our answer.

Sources close to the situation have recently indicated to FiveOuncesofPain.com that multiple herniations in the neck of Ortiz prompted his removal from both the taping of The Ultimate Fighter Season 11, and his anticipated clash with fellow coach Liddell at the conclusion of the most recent season.
